Let me share a little something with you, Sis. Lately, I've been navigating a bunch of changes in my life. It all started when I decided to get serious about my mental and physical well-being—doing the self-work that we all know is so necessary but can be so challenging. And then, in one big brave move, I leaped out of my comfort zone and moved to another state where I didn’t know a single soul. That was a whole new level of scary for me, but I was ready for something different. I wanted to do new things out of my comfort zone, or even revisit some old interests that I never had the confidence to pursue before.
Welp, here I am, a little older, a little wiser, and with a whole new way of thinking. You know what? Life is short, and we’re not getting any younger. I didn’t want to keep letting those “should haves” and “would haves” haunt me. I started asking myself, “What would happen if I just took a chance on myself?” And more importantly, “What will happen if I don’t?”
So today, I’m sharing five strategies that helped me build my confidence during this journey. These aren’t just tips; they’re lifelines that can help you step into your power, just like they helped me.
1. Flip the Script: Positive Self-Talk
One of the first things I had to do was change the way I talked to myself. Those little voices that say, “You can’t do this” or “You’re not good enough” were way too loud. I had to learn to flip the script and start my day with affirmations like, “I am capable,” “I am worthy,” and “I am enough.” It wasn’t easy at first, but over time, those words started to sink in, and I began to believe them. It’s amazing how powerful positive self-talk can be.
2. Surround Yourself with Your Tribe
Moving to a new state where I didn’t know anyone forced me to get out and explore, here I was in this new state and I was ready to explore. I needed to surround myself with people who lifted me and opened my eyes to different opportunities and new adventures. I sought out communities where I could connect with like-minded women, and the support I found made all the difference. When you’re surrounded by love and positivity, your confidence grows in ways you never imagined.
3. Embrace Your Authentic Self
One of the most liberating things I did was embrace who I truly am. I stopped trying to fit into the molds that others had for me and started living authentically. It wasn’t about what others thought of me anymore—it was about how I saw myself. The freedom of being your authentic self is like a ton of weight being lifted off your shoulders. And when you start living for yourself and embracing your unique path, your confidence blooms naturally.
4. Take That First Scary Step
Every big change I made started with one small, scary step. Whether it was moving to a new state or revisiting old passions, I had to push through the fear. I realized that confidence isn’t about not being afraid—it’s about taking action even when you are. Each step I took, no matter how small, built my confidence and showed me just how strong I am. And remember that vulnerability is a strength, not a weakness.
5. Practice Gratitude Every Day
Lastly, practicing gratitude became a daily ritual for me. It’s easy to focus on what’s missing or what’s not going right but shifting my focus to what I do has changed everything. Gratitude helped me see my value more clearly and reminded me of all the good in my life, which, in turn, boosted my confidence. Do not worry about the things that you cannot change. Just let it be.
So, Sis, what would happen if you just took a chance on yourself? What would happen if you didn’t? Life is too short to let fear hold you back. These strategies helped me boost my confidence, and I believe they can help you too. Remember, you are more powerful than you know, and the world needs your light. So go ahead, shine bright, and don’t let anyone dim your glow.
